Choosing to see things as they can be
Using Polaroid's folding SX-70 camera, I started doing film manipulations in 2000. I had seen the technique demonstrated on an episode of CBS Sunday Morning and immediately sought out a camera, Time Zero film, and some clay tools to perform the manipulations. I got to work.
Polaroid discontinued the Time Zero film used by the SX-70. Although a new company started manufacturing similar film a few years later, the print couldn’t be manipulated as it developed. I was ready to give up. Then, in October 2019, the Polaroid Lab went on sale. The Lab allows me to print photos taken on my phone onto instant film.
Although the manipulation process is much more difficult, it IS possible. I began creating new work. I love the painterly look that can be achieved with the technique.
